Weight is not the same as warmth
A heavy comforter traps heat; a too-light one leaves you reaching for another blanket at 3 a.m. Temperature-regulating fabric lets one layer cover more of the year.
Most “cooling” bedding is reactive: it wicks sweat after you are already too warm. Outlast® technology, which grew out of NASA-funded research into phase-change materials, is proactive. Microscopic phase-change materials absorb excess body heat as you warm up, store it, and release it back when you cool down — buffering temperature swings before they wake you.
Pick a fill weight
- Lightweight: hot sleepers, warm climates and summer.
- All-season: most sleepers and couples who sleep at different temperatures.
- Layer a throw or quilt on top for cold snaps instead of upgrading to a heavier comforter.
Shared beds
Because phase-change materials respond to each sleeper’s own heat, one comforter can help a hot sleeper and a cold sleeper stay comfortable side by side.
Care
Choose machine-washable layers and use a duvet cover to keep washing easy.
