Start with your sleep position
The right loft keeps your neck aligned.
- Side sleepers: higher, firmer loft to fill the space between shoulder and ear.
- Back sleepers: medium loft that supports the curve of the neck.
- Stomach sleepers: low, soft loft — or an adjustable pillow with fill removed.
Why pillows run hot
Your head releases a lot of heat, and dense foams trap it. Flipping to the “cool side” only works for a few minutes.
Most “cooling” bedding is reactive: it wicks sweat after you are already too warm. Outlast® technology, which grew out of NASA-funded research into phase-change materials, is proactive. Microscopic phase-change materials absorb excess body heat as you warm up, store it, and release it back when you cool down — buffering temperature swings before they wake you.
Look for adjustability
Adjustable fill lets you fine-tune loft over time. A removable, washable cover keeps the pillow fresh and extends its life.
Don’t forget the cover
A temperature-regulating pillowcase or protector adds cooling to any pillow you already love.
